It's Strange...This Life...

04/13/2024 - 10:43 p.m.

Again, I suck at keeping this updated as I see the last entry was in 2017. So...

Update!

In 2018 the probate on my mom's estate was closed and I received a fairly sizable inheritance. My son did too. We sold the house we had, and bought one in Missouri. Yes, the same town I lived in with my first husband. This time I loved living there, until 2021.

The previous year, before the pandemic, I mentioned to his doctor that he was becoming more and more forgetful. I would mention this several times over the course of two years and his doctor would laugh me off. Until I said 'no this is a problem, this is not normal aging forgetfulness'. He administered the SLUMS (Saint Louis University Mental Status exam) my husband scored a 6. This indicates dementia. Two years were lost due to his doctor not taking it seriously.

Last year in May of 2023, we went to TN to go to a concert. He had a psychotic break as we got home, ran upstairs and pulled a gun on me because he didn't know who I was. The police were called and he was hospitalized and diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's Disease with psychotic features.

At this point we decided we should sell the house in Missouri and move back to TN. So in October we did. We bought a house in McMinnville. It was the only town we could afford to buy something in.

In January of this year, he tried to attack our son and Mama Bear protects her cub. I grabbed him (the husband), pinned his arms to his sides and hip tossed him onto the bed (we were at a hotel). The next morning I had him admitted to a psychiatric hospital with a neuropsychiatric unit. He was moved to a nursing home late last month.

He currently has an emergency conservator since I did not have POA. The hearing to appoint a permanent one is this coming up Thursday.

I visited him in the nursing home last week.

He's completely non verbal now, oblivious to his surroundings, unkempt, and has lost a bit of weight and is wearing the same clothes that I saw him in when I visited in January and dropped off clothes. He has no idea who I am. Or anyone else for that matter.

Now you know.
